Domaine Gueguen Bourgogne Aligoté 2023

Born into families of winegrowers, Céline and Frédéric embarked on their own adventure in 2013. They created their Domaine nestled in the heart of the Chablis vineyards. The 25 hectares of vines are mainly composed of Chardonnay grapes from the Burgundy and Chablis appellations. With a deep attachment to the roots of their families, they are building a new Domaine with a breath of freedom. Céline and Frédéric, in turn, are writing a new page in the history of wine.

Aligoté is Burgundy's "other" white grape, more rarely encountered than Chardonnay, yielding light, citrusy wines. Well-made Aligoté wines, tend to be acidic and mineral - steely one might say. They also can, and should, exhibit terroir, because Aligoté is quite as capable as Chardonnay at presenting terroir.

The Gueguen Aligoté has great freshness, a hallmark of all Gueguen wines, and has appealing floral accents on the nose. The palate comes alive with lemon sherbet alongside pear and green apple. A delicious, easy drinker using Burgundy's 'other' white grape.

Its frankness requires delicate dishes, but with a soft texture, such as fish pies. Also great with dumplings and fine fish or a tian of aubergine.
